AWS for Fast Scalability

Migrating and Managing an Enterprise Application to AWS for Fast Scalability

A&T has developed a portal, “A&TVantage”, for telecom lifecycle management (TLM). A&TVantage customizes and adapts IBM Rivermine to manage complex Government wireless and wireline requirements and allows us to provide highly efficient telecom management services via user-friendly software.

A&TVantage was implemented and operational, and already functions as a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) platform in a Tier-3 datacenter that meets Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) data security requirements. This market-leading TLM solution automates the entire telecom lifecycle, including contract sourcing, ordering, inventory management, invoice processing and auditing, reporting and analytics, and wireless device management.

TLM is a high growth business for A&T Systems that depends on contract and task order awards.  To manage this growth and uncertainty, management wanted to create a highly scalable environment for A&TVantage while meeting and exceeding all government security and service level requirements.

To migrate the datacenter infrastructure to the Amazon Web Services cloud, A&T Systems initiated a Phased Approach consisting of 8 steps:

  1. Cloud Environment Assessment & Design
  2. Cloud Environment Migration Planning
  3. Cloud Environment Provisioning & Deployment
  4. Cloud Configuration Adjustment/Fine Tuning/Optimization
  5. Setup and Configure Managed Services
  6. UAT Testing
  7. Migration of Data through the Cloud Kiosk to the proper Instances
  8. Go-Live

We developed and followed a detailed Project Plan and Work Breakdown Structure to meet all imposed deadlines.  Managed Services included:

  • Continuous Systems Monitoring and network monitoring including IDS/IPS.
  • Backup and Restore Services
  • Log management and analysis
  • Vulnerability Scanning
  • Patching/Upgrades of Servers OS-level software
  • 24/7 On-call Support

In addition to achieving the fast scalability, A&T Systems and our government customers received the following benefits from migrating A&TVantage to AWS:

  • High availability with multiple fault-tolerant Availability Zones for COOP/DR and failover in emergency situations;
  • Open and Flexible Architecture allowing A&T to mix and match OS and platform types;
  • Security with industry recognized certifications and audit that meet federal requirements; and
  • Low Cost Operating Cost using only the resources we need without any capital expenditure.
